UP News: Hearing could not be held in Prayagraj’s district court on Tuesday in the case related to the murder of mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, who were killed last year. The trial of the case was to be heard in the fast track court of Judge Vishnu Chandra Mishra in the district court. In the hearing, the remaining statement of the first witness of the case, the then police inspector of Dhoomanganj police station, Rajesh Kumar Maurya, was to be recorded. Inspector Rajesh Maurya could not appear in the court today.

According to the information, he did not appear in the court due to being busy with government work. Due to his absence, the hearing of the case has been postponed. Inspector Rajesh Kumar Maurya is currently in charge of Kareli police station in Prayagraj. The next hearing in this case will now be held on October 8 in the district court.

Locked up in Chitrakoot jail
In the murder case of mafia brothers Atiq and Ashraf, three accused Sunny Singh alias Puran Singh alias Mohit Singh, Lovelesh Tiwari and Arun Maurya were arrested from the spot. Foreign pistols were also recovered from them. All three accused are currently lodged in Chitrakoot jail in UP. Mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were murdered in police custody on April 15 last year. The murder was committed in Motilal Nehru Divisional Hospital in Prayagraj.

An SIT was formed to investigate this highly discussed and high profile murder case. The SIT investigating the murder case filed a charge sheet in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court on July 13, 2023. Sunny, Lovelesh and Arun, who were arrested from the spot, were made accused in the charge sheet. The CJM court approved the charge sheet and sent the case to the Sessions Court for trial. According to District Government Advocate Gulab Chandra Agrahari, Inspector Rajesh Kumar Maurya will be cross examined by the defense in the hearing to be held on October 8.
